Homework

According to The Education Endowment Foundation, evidence shows that the impact of homework, on average, is five months’ additional progress, therefore; it is the Academy’s aim to provide effective homework and to develop the habit of regular completion of homework in our students.

Students will receive praise and rewards for completing homework in the form of habit points. If homework is not completed students will receive a sanction that is set by their teacher.

Homework for each year group is set on Arbor and Microsoft Teams. KS3 students are expected to complete homework for all three core subjects weekly on Sparx Maths, Sparx Reader and Sparx Science. Alongside this KS4 students will also be set weekly assignments on Sparx Maths or Dr Frost, Sparx Reader and Sparx Science.

All year groups will also be set tasks in non-core subjects based upon their own curriculum timetable and/or options choices.

Homework Schedule for Maths, English and Science

Subject Set Day Due Day Detention Day
Maths Monday Following Monday Tuesday
Science Wednesday Following Tuesday Thursday
English Monday Following Monday Tuesday

If homework isn’t finished to 100%, students will have a 40-minute detention to complete it. If they finish it before the detention, they still need to come to the detention so teachers can check it. If students do not attend this detention, they will get a 90-minute SLT detention on Wednesday or Friday.

Extra Help

The Maths, English and Science departments offer after school clubs to help students with homework and give them access to devices.

We run a Homework Club in the school library Monday-Thursday at 1500-1600pm if students require homework support or IT access. This club is staffed daily in order to provide additional support to any students that may be struggling with the content or accessibility of homework provided.
